How the Nation Transitioned to Health IT (Infographic)

When the Health Information and Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act was passed in 2009, the road from paper to electronic health records seemed steep - and long.  But four years later, considerable progress has been made in EHR adoption, from hospitals and facilities to physicians and pharmacists. Perhaps the greatest progression has been in physicians e-prescribing using an EHR, which was at only 7 percent adoption in 2008 and is now at 54 percent. Plus, more than 94 percent of all pharmacies are now actively e-prescribing, according to HITConsultant.net.

The following infographic from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Technology further outlines the progress made in EHR adoption and health IT since the HITECH Act was passed in 2009.
