Healthcare IT Leaders Announces the 2015 Best Healthcare IT Blogs
National Health IT Week kicks off next week, and we can’t think of a better way to look forward to it than by catching up on all the latest health IT news – and all the ways to find it.
In honor of the 10th anniversary of National Health IT Week Oct. 5-9, we’re announcing our list of the Best Healthcare IT Blogs of 2015, which cover software systems, consultant best practices, tools of the health IT trade and legislative changes that may impact healthcare IT consultants’ careers.
“The best bloggers deliver more than just dry industry updates,” said Alex Gramling, Chief Marketing Officer for Healthcare IT Leaders. "The blogs on our list offer well-written HIT content and opinions to educate, inform and entertain."
Blogs included in our list had to be updated regularly and include topics other than company news and product promotions. In other words, while they could be corporate blogs, they still had to provide healthcare IT enthusiasts with the most up-to-date, frequent, relevant news. And though we accepted nominations to compile our list this year, we still viewed each blog individually to compile the best possible health IT blogs to our readers.
Written by hospital administrator and consultant Christina Thielst, Christina’s Considerations is a blog on the topics of hospitals, workplace effectiveness, health information technology, telehealth, social media and enhancing the patient’s experience.
Run by EMR vendor CureMD, the Cure MD Blog features a webinar section and the useful Knowledge Hub, where readers will find ICD-10, Meaningful Use, ACOs and Physician Quality Reporting System resources.
Healthcare IT software platform Edifecs emphasizes video blogging on its often-updated blog and focuses on the topics of administration simplification, risk adjustment, population health, value-based care and interoperability.
GE Health IT Views
Run by GE Healthcare professionals, GE Health IT Views covers care delivery management, enterprise imaging, financial management and population health.
Government Health IT
While this blog certainly covers all HITECH Act updates, ICD-10 deadlines, AHA rules and other policy and legislative topics, it also dives into information security, population health management, government run health programs and military health, to name a few topics.
Health Affairs Blog – Health IT
The Health IT section of the Health Affairs Blog discusses health technology, Meaningful Use requirements, web portals, EHRs and telemedicine for humans, with a unique, regular emphasis on what health IT means for our pets.
Health IT and mHealth
With a unique, more graphic-centric layout than any of the other blogs in our list, Health IT and mHealth spotlights health IT startups, the future of health technology and deeper dives into current events.
Health IT Now
This blog offers more than just articles on topical health IT issues; this coalition of patient groups, providers, employers and payers also provides a wealth of information, including support letters for active legislation, links to resources and an archive of studies.
A regular on our Best Healthcare IT Blogs list, HIStalk is still from the viewpoint of an anonymous health IT professional, with a behind-the-scenes look at the health IT industry featuring hospital management interviews and health IT news and rumors.
Featuring posts by various Phoenix Health Systems’ technology professionals, the HITPOINT Blog covers Meaningful Use, ICD-10, new systems implementation and privacy and security issues.
More than just a blog, HL7 Standards is a “healthcare integration resource center” that emphasizes, yes, HL7 topics, plus health IT standards, organizational spotlights and current health IT topics, events and opinions. Its “#HITsm Chat” tab announces upcoming opportunities for having conversations around on specific topics via Twitter.
IBM Healthcare and Life Sciences Blog
With regular updates about Watson, its remarkable system partnering people and computers, IBM’s healthcare and life sciences blog also reports on digital health, the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare analytics.
Modern Healthcare – Technology
Though the Modern Healthcare blog is vast, its Healthcare Information Technology tag/tab is focused – and frequently updated with the latest health IT acquisitions, new health IT business ventures and EHR implementation statistics.
Run by healthcare information consultant Steve Sisko, Shimcode is a compilation of health IT information and ideas with an emphasis on how health IT professionals can leverage social media, including an archive of past Q&A sessions with health IT social media influencers.
The Health Care Blog
For the third year in a row, The Health Care Blog has made our list, and for good reason: Founder and publisher Matthew Holt is still on a mission to provide a deeper dive into the topics of healthcare as a business, the latest technology (with helpful videos), mobile health and patients’ perspective.
Run by pediatric gastroenterologist Dr. Bryan Vartabedian, MD, 33 Charts is a curation of how digital medicine and social media communication affect the healthcare industry.
