Healthcare IT Leaders today announced the hire of Michael Cooper as Chief Quality Officer and VP, Quality Assurance and Testing (QAT), leading the company’s QAT services and consulting practice. Cooper is an acknowledged authority on software quality and testing, with 15-plus years of industry experience in QAT.

He joins Healthcare IT Leaders from HP Software, where he was the Software Quality and Testing Evangelist, representing the company with thought leadership on topics including agile testing, test automation and testing centers of excellence. Prior to that, he was Senior Director, Enterprise IT Quality Assurance at T-Mobile USA, where he directed a team of 400-plus QAT resources. Michael has also led software testing at Fair Isaac (FICO), Inovis and Equifax Software Development Services.

Compliance needs such as ICD-10 and HIPAA, security concerns, cloud and mobile adoption, ERP and CRM projects and new agile development methodologies are all critical reasons why hospitals and healthcare systems have increased needs around quality assurance and testing. Healthcare IT Leaders offers a suite of services and testing resources, including U.S.-based rural testing centers, to support client needs under Cooper’s leadership.

“Mike’s experience, combined with our existing testing resources and services, should prove invaluable for hospitals during this time of rapid IT growth,” said Brad Elster, President, Healthcare IT Leaders. “We can help our clients extend their internal testing resources and consult to them on QAT best practices.”

On October 15, Cooper will be part of an industry panel at STARWEST, one of the largest annual events for software testers and quality assurance professionals. His panel will discuss the findings from the 2014-15 World Quality Report, to which he was a contributing author while at HP. The report is an authoritative annual review of global trends in quality and testing.

Recognition for Cooper includes the 2011 HP Software Award of Excellence Americas - People's Choice, the 2009 HP Software Award of Excellence for IT Transformation and the Quality Leadership Executive of the Year Award in 2006. He is a past president of the Atlanta Quality Assurance Association (QLE Chapter) and a Certified ScrumMaster.
