HIPAA Security Breaches Cost $24 Million On Average [Infographic]

Any data breach is ultimately expensive. But a HIPAA data breach? That'll cost your organization the big bucks.

With data breaches expected to reach $2.1 trillion globally by 2019, which is four times the expected cost for cyber crime in 2015, healthcare organizations must be prepared for security breaches. The infographic below from Privacy Analytics shows that while healthcare providers are the segment with the most HIPAA breaches to date, only 28% of healthcare organizations had "sufficient resources to prevent or detect unauthorized patient data access, loss or theft."

With research from Pricewaterhouse Cooper, Gartner and other leading organizations, the infographic below on HIPAA security breaches between 2009 and 2015 also outlines the number and cost of healthcare security breaches, demand for better guidelines for using and sharing secondary data and how the methodologies reduce the risk of re-identification.
