6 Health IT Companies with Amazing Perks

We scanned the healthcare IT landscape for a few companies that go above and beyond for their employees, and not surprisingly, we found some amazing places to work. From onsite gyms and catered lunches to generous vacation policies and dog-friendly offices, the great perks at these leading health IT employers keep their workers engaged, healthy and happy.

Athenahealth
Athenahealth, a pioneer in cloud-based Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software, encourages a work-hard, play-hard culture with perks galore at its main Watertown, MA campus. There’s a Clubhouse stocked with games and exercise equipment, free weekly Yoga classes and a Frisbee golf course. Athena also owns its own corporate resort, Point Lookout in Belfast, ME, which plays host to corporate off-sites, client meetings, employee training and new hire orientations. Beyond basic benefits, there is a discounted stock purchase plan and the company offers a 401K match. Oh, and one more thing, every day is “Bring Your Dog to Work Day.” Woof!

Cerner
The expanding Cerner corporate campus is home to nearly 12 thousand employees in greater Kansas City, MO, and the EHR giant is focused on keeping associates and their families healthy with Cerner-run services. Onsite Cerner clinics and pharmacies, powered by Cerner EHRs, are where many employees go for healthcare. Health services can be paid for through a Cerner managed health plan. There are three fitness centers on campus, staffed by Certified Athletic Trainers, and the gyms are free to Cerner associates and family members. Parents appreciate two onsite childcare centers and a generous maternity program.

Cipher Health
This New York-based developer of digital care management and post-discharge solutions consistently ranks high on Best Places to Work lists, including being named the best place to work in healthcare in 2014 by Modern Healthcare. The company offers flexible work hours, unlimited time off and paid time off for community service. Onsite amenities include a gym, cotton candy machine, ball pit (yes, we said ball pit), and a company masseuse.

Epic Systems
Epic ranks 16 on Glassdoor’s list of 20 companies that provide its employees with unique perks and benefits. The list cites the company’s paid Sabbatical program, offered to any employee who has been with Epic for four years. Every Epic employee on the vast and quirky Verona, WI campus gets their own office, and onsite services range from oil changes to dry cleaning. Continuous learning is also a point of emphasis with tuition reimbursement, funds for professional development and biannual learning weeks.

Flatiron Health
Founded by two former Google employees, Flatiron Health, a maker of analytics and EMR software for the Oncology market, offers a Google-like culture to promote innovation. Guided by the company’s core values, employees set their own hours and daily tasks and can work from home as needed. Schedule flexibility at Flatiron also includes unlimited vacation time. But don’t think everyone works remotely as there are plenty of enticements to be in the New York office, including endless snacks and beverages and daily catered lunches.

Health Catalyst
Employees at Health Catalyst, a health analytics company based in Salt Lake City, UT rave about their comprehensive benefits that include unlimited PTO, 401K and HSA matching funds, and reimbursement for cell phones, home internet, health clubs, and public transit as well as tuition assistance. There’s also an onsite gym with instructor led classes. And go ahead and make Christmas vacation plans:  the office shuts down for the entire holiday week.
